How Natural Are Our Products?

At Peel Riverside, we prioritize lowering our toxic threshold, which is why we not only use our own products but also began crafting natural alternatives.

All our offerings are free from SLS, parabens, and phthalates. We're currently transitioning to two distinct product lines: one featuring essential oils with no synthetic ingredients, scents, or colors for our most sensitive clients, and another that's 99% natural, where we experiment with fragrance oils and cosmetic-grade colorants.

We are committed to using only ethically sourced ingredients to ensure quality, sustainability, and the most natural experience possible.

As for sodium hydroxide in our soaps, it’s a natural ingredient essential for soap making. Known as lye, it transforms oils and fats into soap through a process called saponification. Once this process is complete, sodium hydroxide is no longer present in its original form; it combines with oils to create soap and glycerin, making it safe and effective for cleansing without harmful residues. In fact, no solid bar soap can be made without it!

Using top-quality, natural ingredients is what makes our handmade soap a truly exceptional experience. To create a batch of 18 soaps, we incorporate over 3 kg of premium butters and raw oils, along with raw fruit purees, exfoliants, sea salts, and high-quality essential and fragrant oils. There’s simply no comparison between our natural, skin-loving soaps and commercial options filled with detergents.

These natural ingredients not only help heal and brighten the skin but are also ideal for addressing issues like itchy, sensitive skin, acne, eczema, and psoriasis, providing gentle and nourishing cleansing without irritation.

If any of our ingredients sound unnatural or overly chemically, it’s often just in the scientific or latin name. We have provided below a list of ingredients and their healthy benefits for you to familiarize yourself with what goes into our products. But don't just take our word for it, we encourage you to further research each ingredient for yourself to discover their healing benefits and origins.  We remain a fully transparent company and list all of our ingredients on each and every product so you know what you're putting on your skin.

Here’s a list of some of our commonly used ingredients and their benefits for skin care.

Beeswax

Yep, you read it. If we need a wax, we'll be using beeswax. We're not vegan over here. Why? Because beeswax is the ultimate health food for a wax to be applied to your skin. In body products, it offers amazing moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and healing benefits, and is rich in vitamin A, making it highly beneficial for skin health. That's not something you get in a soya wax or other plant based waxes.

Tallow

Just like beeswax, we proudly incorporate tallow in some of our products, always clearly labeled. Just as our homesteading ancestors did, we use tallow to honor the life of the animal and promote resource efficiency, minimizing environmental impact. With its exceptional moisturizing properties, tallow deeply nourishes the skin and elevates the quality of our soaps and lotions, making it a truly powerful and sustainable ingredient.
